i am the complete opposite of the great dean, as in, i have not made it but i have advice… i am making two short films that i wrote and am paying for lighting and permits and finding makeup people and cameramen on craigslist.com and am finding actors on nowcasting.com… also i found a coffee shop to shoot in from craigslist and the guy who set me up with that is now my producer who is getting those permits for me (although i am paying for that stuff)… these are just short films but still, it’s more than i was doing last year… it’s just about doing it… as for being an actor, look at craigslist.com and it’s kinda nice because you find people who are also starting out needing to cast someone who can act, and by doing this you meet people who are in the same boat as you… i have my short film roles on nowcasting.com (RICK RIGHT and SKETCH) and some guy emailed me saying he has his own casting site that is growing and i ended up using his place in hollywood for auditions (i live and work in O.C.), whereas i had NO place for auditions before now i have a place simply by meeting someone who wanted me to put my film on their site… a makeup girl i got from craigslist and she knows of a really good storyboard guy and the storyboard guy knows of a great cheap editor (cheaper than my current guy)… all this stuff happens starting out, like a chain reaction… but as dean said, and speilberg has said this to, WRITE… that’s the key… then cast for a short film that you can star in… me, not being an actor, can’t do this… so start at the bottom but there at the bottom do the best work you can… in festivals sometime next year you’ll see SKETCH and RICK RIGHT, two short films I did, and this time last year I never thought it possible…
